The talented freestyle skier Gu Ailing won a gold medal with a score of 188.25 points during women's freeski big air final, which is the first gold medal in this event in Olympic history and also Gu’s first Olympic medal. Gu got 94.5 points in the last run and 93.75 points in the first.

Gu Ailing of China, an 18-year-old star, made her Olympic debut on Feb 7, competing in the women's freeski big air qualification. This is also one of Gu's three freestyle skiing events at the Winter Olympics.
Gu still has two more events to compete in the following days, including slopestyle and halfpipe. It is Gu’s first Winter Olympics, “I'm not skiing just for the Olympic Games. I'm skiing for my passion for the sport. I started skiing at a young age because I love the feeling of snow. Only when you do the things you have passion for can you put all your heart into that,” said Gu.

Gu, who qualified for the Olympics in March last year, is the most anticipated athlete at the Beijing Games at home and abroad. Gu's popularity is naturally due to her strong personal strength.
Since her return from injury on Dec 2, 2021, Gu has won six gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal in all nine competitions she has participated in 37 days, finishing her all competitions before the Winter Olympics. In the women's halfpipe event, she won all four races of the season, showing highly strong dominance in this field, and won the crystal ball symbolizing the championship of the season.

On Dec 4, 2021, Gu became the first woman to ever land a right double cork 1440 in any freeski competition to claim her first Big Air World Cup title at Steamboat Resort in Calorado, with a total of 184.25 points.
