昨天中国乃至世界政坛的大事就是新一届中共中央政治局常委同中外记者见面。
这张照片想必大家都见过了，今天我们来分析一下里面的一个重要的用词：

standing 意思是“existing or arranged permanently（长期存在的）, not formed or made for a particular situation（不是为了一个特定目的而设置的）”
比如：a standing belief 表示“一个长期存在看法”，standing 前面往往还有一个 long，所以上述表达还可以写成 a long-standing belief，这样是不是更清楚了？
再看个例子：a standing charge，表示“长期支付的开销”，比如水费、电费、煤气费等。
可见 standing 的反义词是 temporary（临时性的）。
对了，美国国会也有“a standing committee”（常务委员会），来看看维基百科的解释：
In the United States Congress, standing committees are permanent legislative panels…（在美国国会，常务委员会是固定的立法专家小组）
由此可见，standing 跟 permanent 类似，permanent表示“永恒地、永久地”，但描述职位时，翻译为“固定的”更恰当，如：
a permanent job（固定工作）；permanent staff（固定职工）
而“常委会”（Standing Committee）就是党代会闭会期间，执行党代会日常工作的委员会，属于代表大会的常设机构。
总结一下，standing committee（常委会）里的standing，表示“日常的、常设的、固定”之意。
