This issue contains the Special Topic: Microscopic Mechanism for Manipulating Thermal Conduction. The conduction of heat is one of the fundamental energy transport mechanisms in nature. In addition to the fundamental insights in physics, the study of heat conduction is also valuable for an array of applications, including thermal management, thermal barrier coating, thermal protection for space applications, advanced radiation detectors, as well as thermoelectrics. The cover shows that the aim of promoting the aerospace vehicles is the driving force for the development of thermal protection materials with combinations of excellent mechanical strength, stiffness and low thermal conductivity.
