“三伏炎蒸人欲死，清凉到此顿疑仙”，鸡公山夏季凉爽宜人，三伏盛夏如秋,是我国四大避暑胜地之一。这里自然资源丰富、生物多样，森林覆盖率高达98%。霞光云海、雾凇雨凇、奇峰怪石、瀑布流泉等奇观异景，自然天成，别墅群落、遗迹胜景、神话传说等令人流连忘返，美不胜收。负氧离子含量最高峰值每立方厘米22万个，堪称天然氧吧，以“青分楚豫、气压嵩衡”而著称于世。百年前，就以避暑胜地蜚声中外，是新中国首批对外开放的旅游景区、国家级重点风景名胜区、国家级自然保护区。
千年历史遗存，万国文化荟萃
鸡公山现存中、美、英、俄等23个国家风格别墅109栋，或端庄、雄伟、绮丽，或幽雅、开朗、安详，依山就势、争奇斗艳，融不同国家建筑、音乐、舞蹈、绘画、雕塑、园艺等文化元素为一体，韵致纷呈、多姿多彩，成为世界建筑史上的奇观，具有丰富的历史价值、艺术价值、科学价值、文化价值，被誉为“万国建筑博览”。2013年，这一建筑群被国家批准为全国重点文物保护单位，在我国近代建筑研究中具有重要地位。
