On the afternoon of July 20th, accompanied by the grape aroma amid the hot summer, the "Sweetness for All" 2023 Dongguan Grape Festival was held in the greenhouse of Dongguan Agricultural Science Research Center, displaying 60 grape varieties including 34 produced in Dongguan that will be recommended to farmers and citizens. A pageant of grapes produced in Dongguan was also held on the same day, with 26 grape samples selected by and from 16 grape plantation enterprises and large planters competing with each other in appearance and flavor.
That afternoon, the greenhouse of Dongguan Agricultural Science Research Center was bustling with the crowd. Traditional Dongguan grapes including the Sunshine Rose, the Summer Black and the Kyoho, with plumb fruits and attractive colors, made their appearance one after another on the stage. Having been evaluated by the experts, these sweet summer grapes were free for the guests and citizens to enjoy.
"The highlight of this grape-tasting festival is the rich varieties of the grapes," said Fan Yan, a researcher at the Dongguan Agricultural Science Research Center. She also told the reporter that over 110 varieties of grapes have been introduced to the variety bank at the Research Center this year. As it is now the ripening season of grapes, they selected 34 grape varieties suitable for local plantation in Dongguan after the planting trials at the Research Center and presented them to the farmers and the citizens.
"Since it is the first time for the Tiangong series of grapes to be displayed in Dongguan, many citizens have never seen them before," said Fan Yan. She also mentioned that there is a rarer new variety introduced from abroad called the "Fry Muscadine" (round-leaf grapes) which "yields only one fruit per twig". The reporter has seen over 20 grapefruits scattered in the fruit tray of the muscadine eaten up by the people in a minute.
Mr. Zhou is a planter of an ecological grape orchard. Born in a farming family in the 1980s, he is passionate about agriculture. Zhou started his career in the planting industry 6 years ago, and is now the renter of about 20 mu of land in Dongguan Tongsha Ecological Park, on which he grows grapes in summer and strawberries in winter. "I took part in the grape-tasting festival every year," said Zhou. In 2022, he selected the grapes of the Zuijinxiang, the Sunshine Rose and the Kyoho for evaluation, which won him the High Quality Award; while this year, he has selected the varieties of the Kyoho, the Liaofeng and the Sunshine Rose. Zhou has also expressed his satisfaction with the grape tasting festival this year, holding that it is an opportunity to exchange planting experience with the experts and his counterparts and to learn about the drawbacks of the varieties he planted. In doing so, he is able to learn from advanced experience through communication, so as to remedy his limitations.
During the grape tasting competition held at the venue, 26 grape samples from 16 grape plantation enterprises and large planters in Dongguan were graded by the experts according to their comprehensive evaluation of the cluster size, the fruit powder, the flavor and the quality of the pulp. In the end, 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 18 high quality awards were selected.
广东东莞：26款葡萄争“香”选“美”，多个稀有品种首次亮相
炎炎夏日，葡萄香飘。7月20日下午，“众享甜蜜”2023年莞产葡萄活动日在东莞市农科中心农业科普温室举行，现场展示了60多个葡萄品种，其中包括向农户和市民推荐适合东莞栽种的34个莞产葡萄品种。当天还开展了莞产葡萄品评比赛，来自全市16家葡萄种植企业、种植大户选送了26个葡萄样品同场争“香”选“美”。
当天下午，一走进东莞市农科中心农业科普温室内，里面早就人头攒动，热闹非凡。在展台上，阳光玫瑰、夏黑、巨峰等传统莞产葡萄逐一亮相，盘盘葡萄颗粒饱满、色泽诱人。在专家品评完毕后，嘉宾和市民就可以自由品尝盛夏葡萄的香甜了。
“本次葡萄品评会最大的特点就是品种比较多。”东莞市农业科学中心研究员范妍告诉记者，今年，东莞市农科中心品种库共引进了110多个葡萄品种。现在正是葡萄集中成熟的季节，因此选出34个适合东莞栽种的莞产葡萄品种向农户、市民展示，这些品种全部都是在东莞科研示范基地试栽后优选出来的葡萄品种。
“天工系列葡萄是今年首次亮相东莞，许多市民没有见过。”范妍说，此外，还有一种从国外引进的葡萄“新贵”——费雷尔（圆叶）更为稀有，“一个枝只结一颗果”。记者现场看到，圆叶果盘里散放着仅20余颗葡萄，很快便被人品尝一空。
周先生是馨果园生态葡萄庄园的种植户。80后的他是农民出身，对农业充满热情。6年前开始从事种植业，如今在东莞同沙生态公园内租种了约20亩地块夏种葡萄、冬种草莓。“我每年都来参加葡萄品评会。”周先生说，2022年，他选送了醉金香、阳光玫瑰和巨峰三个品种参评，得了优质奖；今年选送了巨峰、辽峰和阳光玫瑰三个品种。周先生对此次品评会很满意，他认为通过品评会，既可以与专家、同行交流葡萄种植技术，也可以知道自己所种品种的差距，在品评中深化沟通，学习先进经验，弥补自身不足。
现场还同步举行了莞产葡萄品评比赛。来自全市16家葡萄种植企业（大户）选送了26个葡萄样品接受专家品评打分。经专家组对果穗大小、果粉、风味、肉质等综合评比打分，最终评选出3个一等奖，5个二等奖，18个优质奖。(更多新闻资讯，请关注羊城派 pai.ycwb.com)
