Cover Story
The cover of this issue showcases the featured article on the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor (HUBS) mission. The HUBS satellite is depicted against the backdrop of the large-scale distribution of hot baryonic matter in the universe, capturing the essence of its groundbreaking research. With its unrivaled spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and wide field of view, HUBS will enable detailed measurements of the physical and chemical properties of hot gas. The mission’s primary scientific goals include unraveling the physics of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and stellar feedback, essential for understanding galaxy formation and evolution, and the budget of the multi-phase baryon across different scales, from individual galaxies to the larger cosmological context. The HUBS mission will also pave the way for a deeper understanding of galaxy clusters, AGNs, diffuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects. The cover is designed with the support from the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (See the article (No. 299513) by Joel Bregman et al.).
