Women and their microbes

图片

期刊:npj Biofilms and Microbiomes

客座编辑:Ina Schuppe Koistinen, Maria Carmen Collado & Juan Du

Research in women's health and the microbiome holds immense potential to transform healthcare by providing a deeper understanding of women's unique health needs and facilitating the development of personalized, effective, and equitable medical interventions.

Historically, this area of medicine has been under-researched and under-funded, but there is growing recognition of the unmet need for research and treatments in this field. Microbiome research has shown promise in addressing some of these unmet needs.

From the vaginal microbiome in reproductive health to the impact of menopause on the skin microbiome, the applications of microbiome science in women’s health are wide-reaching and present an opportunity to develop novel therapeutic approaches and diagnostics. We invite researchers, clinicians, and experts in the field to submit their original research, reviews, and perspectives to contribute to this important dialogue.

Sleep in health and disease

图片

期刊:Communications Medicine

编辑团队请参考特刊主页

Getting to sleep, staying asleep or sleeping at inappropriate moments can be problematic. Whilst some people with disturbed sleep have recognised sleep disorders, for many people it is associated with other health conditions, age or lifestyle factors. As a consequence, disturbed sleep is a frequent comorbidity for people living with other diseases, and this can be a consequence of the disease itself or its treatment. Lifestyle factors that impact sleep are extensive and include a poor sleeping environment, sedentary lifestyle, diet, use of digital technologies, exposure to artificial light, shiftwork and use of prescribed medications or psychoactive substances.

We welcome submissions focused on the study of sleep in humans and using preclinical models that consider factors that negatively impact sleep health as well as studies that evaluate approaches to understand and improve sleep. We are also keen to receive submissions that consider sleep problems as a comorbidity or side effect of treatment for other diseases.

Occupational lung diseases

图片

期刊:Scientific Reports

客座编辑:Emily A. Sarver & Jing Wang

Occupational lung disease can be triggered by exposure to a range of different substances or conditions encountered in certain workplace environments. Perhaps most widely recognised are the risks associated with asbestos exposure in the construction industry, but risks are also encountered in mining, agricultural and other professions.Collectively, these diseases can affect the airways, alveoli, pleura and lung interstitium, leading to inflammation, fibrosis and cancer. Research into preventative measures and detection techniques, as well as disease diagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment, are essential to reduce the impact of these disorders and improve the quality of life of those affected.

This Collection invites original research articles that further our understanding of occupational lung diseases in the fields of pulmonology, toxicology, radiology, immunology, and other disciplines addressing this aspect of respiratory medicine.

客座编辑:Sanchayan Banerjee, Michalis Drouvelis & Laura Zimmermann

This collection invites original research in behavioural public policy, spanning across a range of topics featuring conceptual, theoretical or methodological contributions with applications in different areas of judgement and decision-making such as climate change, education, energy and environment, health, financial decision-making, consumer behaviour, gender studies, technology and artificial intelligence, law and regulation, poverty, inequality and social policy, misinformation and disinformation, sludging, and philosophy, ethics and freedom. The collection specifically aims to address key issues and debates in the epistemology, semantics and empirics of behavioural public policy using a range of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches.

期刊:Scientific Reports

客座编辑:Alok Kumar, Swee Leong SING & Elnaz Tamjid

This collection seeks original research across diverse facets of 3D bioprinting in a broader scope, encompassing bioprinting technique (photo-etching, deposition, and novel printer designs), evolving biomaterial (bio-inks), demonstrable applications, pivotal analytical tools for elucidating the process, as well as the broadly defined biological and clinical applications of 3D printing. Beyond tissue engineering, this collection embraces broad applications of biofabrication, including in vitro and in vivo modeling of tissues and organs, drug screening, comprehension of developmental processes, disease modeling and prognosis, and functional therapy.

Immune Aging

图片

期刊:Nature Communications

Nature Portfolio is launching a new open Collection to call for submissions on immune aging, and encourages submissions of primary research studying related topics, including but not limited to cellular and molecular, mechanistic analyses using animal, human or non-human primate models. We welcome new insights on both of the innate and adaptive immune systems, as well as their crosstalk in relevant settings. In parallel, we are also interested in under-represented groups or cohorts even with exploratory outcomes, and appreciate broad contexts such as infection, cancer and autoimmunity. Finally, we may consider Review articles but primary research will be the main priority in this Collection.

In the age of information, data processing and computation are essential. But current computation devices lack scalability and suffer from high carbon emissions. So researchers are constantly looking for alternative architectures and paradigms. Optical (or photonic) computing has emerged as a promising and innovative field with the potential to revolutionize various aspects of computing and information processing. It offers high-speed and parallel computation with significantly less energy consumption. Recently, there has been an increased interest in the field of optical computing and its interdisciplinary applications: platforms, architectures, integrable hardware and protocols for storage, encryption, data and signal processing and computation.

期刊:Nature Communications

Plants live with a diversity of microorganisms throughout their lifespan. Plants recruit and shape microbiome structures through topological and chemical strategies. Meanwhile, plant growth and resilience are heavily impacted by associated microbiomes. Studies of plant microbiomes not only shed light on principles underlying the assembly and dynamics of plant-associated microbiomes but also provide strategic insights into microbiome engineering to boost plant health and sustainable agriculture. The editors of Nature Communications, Communications Biology and Scientific Reports invite submissions on plant microbiomes.
